Peavey AmpKitAnother great week for free apps on the app store. There are new utilities, games, tools, entertainment apps and more. Once again, I’m fairly certain you’ll download at least one of the following:

  • AmpKit - Peavey and Agile have quite an app on their hands with AmpKit. It’s similar to AmpliTube in that it’s a gutiar processing / modeling app.  They say their app can output high gain sounds much better than competitors, and after a brief trial, I’d agree.  This app doesn’t come with a lot of gear, but it’s honestly better than some paid apps even before any in app purchases.  You can buy more gear in the app or just buy everything with AmpKit+ if you like.

  • Netflix - They’ve added Instant Watch streaming to the iPhone version of this app.  Now you can stream tons of content straight to your iPhone anywhere you have Internet access with a Netflix membership.

  • Clicker - Watch over 1,800 web shows with Clicker.  Also, you can check schedules, find show details and check in with what you’re watching to share with friends.  The app is supposed to support Hulu and Netflix streaming soon.

  • Fly&Share - Automatically update your social status with your flight status.  This is a pretty sweet app that takes your flight number and automatically posts details of the flight, as it happens, to Twitter or Facebook. Very convenient.

  • OnMyWay - An app from TeleNav that keeps a specified contact up to date on whether you’re going to be on time based on your current location and time.  As soon as you get close to your destination, the app sends an SMS or email to your contact letting them know you’re almost there.  I may be old fashion, but I’d just call them.

  • Solitaire Favorites HD Free - Your three favorite solitaire games for iPad supported by iAds.  Included are Klondike, Spider and FreeCell.  The graphics are very nice and there are plenty of options for each game.  The only real drawback is the ads.

  • Free Birthday Alert Reminder Facebook Push - Seriously, with a name like that, you know what you’re getting.  This app links up to your Facebook profile and reminds you every time one of your friends has a birthday.

  • TiltShift Generator Free - A free version app that generates those images that make real places look like miniature replicas.  This version will do just about everything, but it won’t output full quality images.  Still, you’ll get the idea.

  • Express - The official app of Express stores.  Shop for clothes to keep yourself looking good.

  • Rent.com - Moving?  I know I am.  If you haven’t already found a new place to live, then why not check out listings on Rent.com with their iDevice app?  You can access the full site specially formatted for your iDevice.  It makes contacting properties as simple as pushing a button.

  • Sam’s Club - Get detailed information about Sam’s Clubs, including the closest locations, store hours and more.  You can browse SamsClub.com and buy things, or even get information about specific products while in store by “scanning” them with your iPhone’s camera.  It’s an essential app for anyone who frequents Sam’s Club.

  • Dixtance - Track your location simply.  This app will record where you are and output a GPX file for you to use eslewhere.  It supports iOS 4.0, so it runs in the background nicely.  It’s a great and simple way to know where you’ve been, how far you traveled, how long it took you, etc.  What you use it for is up to you.

  • Night Stand HD Lite - This app is a full screen clock for use in a dock, perhaps as your alarm clock, even.  There are choices of designs of clocks and support for alarms.  Since it supports iOS 4.0, the app doesn’t need to be the active app to alarm you.  It’s quite a nice looking clock.

  • Piranha 3D - I’m sorry, I just had to share this app.  You know what it is, yet you’ll still click the link.

  • USB Disk for iPad - Free today only, this app allows you to use your iPad similarly to a USB flash drive.  It’s basically a file viewer and storage method.  Nothing too fancy, but if you want a free way to store files on your iPad or a way to store PDFs, Office documents etc, then this might be for you.

There are so many applications for the iPhone as there are users, and you can find a suitable majority of people have different interests. But there are some basic applications that apply to everyone. EBook reader is a device that remains popular in spite of many other products with the same functions. It great because it allows people to read books in different shapes and sizes, using the iPhone for other purposes.
